by As we know, a lot of people live outside India with their families for the purpose of work. Most of them are economically low or middle class. Such people face many basic problems in their lives in the Gulf/other foreign countries and when they return to their homeland. There are many people living outside Kerala and within India. These non-resident Keralites (NRK-India) are also facing situations similar to those of NRKs abroad.
To overcome such problems, Kerala State came forward with very useful initiative, a welfare fund to provide welfare schemes to NRKs (abroad) and NRKs (in India). Under the Kerala Non-Resident Keralites’ Wlefare Act, 2008 passed in the Legislative Assembly, Government of Kerala, Kerala Non-Resident Keralites Welfare Board came in to existence. More than 85,000 NRKs have the membership in the welfare fund. NRKs abroad but now returned to India for permanent settlement after at least two years of foreign employment, can also get membership in this board. Member will get many welfare schemes such as pension schemes, family pension schemes, medical aid, death assistance, etc.
There are 2 main payments. There is a ₹200 registration fee and there are the monthly amounts to pay into the pension. The monthly contributions required to fund on the basis of Type of Non-Resident Keralite for a Pravasi pension as follows.
1.NRK – Outside of India- ₹300
2.NRK – Returned from abroad-₹100
3.NRK – Outside of Kerala but in India-₹100
You will need to contribute to the pension for at least 5 years before you are able to avail the pension income.
How to get Pravasi pension scheme registration online?
You can apply for the pension scheme online or with documents to a local bank. To do online registration, please follow the given below steps.
- Go to the Pravasi Kerala Website (link given below).
- Click on “Services” on the left side menu.
- Scroll down to Apply Online, this will open a new window
- Select the option “New Registration”
- Accept and submit the NRK agreement
- Follow the prompts for submitting the online application
